Every Friday I’ll indulge my order-crazed brain in a list of randomness. Welcome to my Friday Fives.
Today marks a special Friday Five. It’s the very last Friday before my nephew is born. The last Friday of being Aunt NoNo to just Lily. I wanted to take a moment to give a big shout-out to my favorite little munchkin before she goes from being the baby that stole my heart to big sister in a matter of days.
My sister told me she was pregnant with Lily right when Joe and I returned from China. The timing couldn’t have been more perfect and I was so excited to be an Aunt. We moved to Dallas to be in driving range and the morning of Sunday, January 27, 2008, my sister called me at 5:45am and said “Aunt Marci?” when I answered. I hit the road in some crazy fog to be there for the big moment.
This little baby was totally unaware that she just joined the coolest sibling club on the planet.
The transformative power of Lily coming into our lives was beyond my imagination. There was no way to comprehend just how insanely happy she would make all of us.
From her infectious giggles, to precious curls, to her loveable grin, to her funny made-up words and not-so-quiet confidence…We were, have been, are, will forever be…completely smitten.
In honor of the girl who made me an Aunt and continues to make my heart burst with love, pride, laughs and more love, let’s take a trip down memory lane to watch some of my favorite Lily moments from over the years, in no particular order.
5. Humble Beginnings
As one of the few relatives to live far from Lily & Co., I definitely had a disadvantage when it came to bonding with her. Thankfully, Facetime has proved a fun and easy way to overcome a lot of that distance. But in the beginning there was some fear over this girl who would swoop in from nowhere (Miami) and insist on hugs, kisses and around-the-clock playtime. And this video shows how I got my nickname “Aunt NoNo.” My favorite part is her stunned expression when reprimanded for hitting me in the face.
4. A Nickname Realized
This video shows the first time she used my nickname, of course preceded by the word that inspired it: No.
3. Whistle While You Work
Lily now knows how to properly whistle, but in the beginning she thought it just meant a high-pitched screech, which we of course encouraged because it was hilarious.
2. Reading Rainbow
This girl is just like her momma, daddy and NoNo: She loves to read. Here she is reading to me for the first time from one of my favorites, Where the Wild Things Are. Disclaimer: So much cuteness in this one tiny clip. Brace Yo’self.
1. Sing it, Sister
After reading, there is nothing more I want her to love more than music. Until she picks up her first brass mouthpiece, I’ll be the biggest fan of her amazing singing skills. Here she is sampling some of her greatest hits. Did you know when you’re happy and you know it you “stompa’da feeties?” Watch and learn.
Oh, Lily, I know you aren’t a toddler anymore, but I cherish these sweet moments from when you were little and look forward to reliving the fun with your baby brother. You will always hold a very special place in my heart. I couldn’t love you more if I tried.
[Update: Lily just called asking me to sponsor her Jump Rope for Heart, so we can “help make hearts better.” #immelting]
AWWWW! Thank you!! Tears of laughter and sadness at traveling down this memory lane. I love it!! Lily and I watched each video together. Can’t wait to see what brother will come up with. We love you NoNo!
